International Airport, Bhairahawa Nepal

Project idea

The topic done is International Airport Design at Bhairahawa, Nepal as my thesis project for research and design. The main objective for the selection of this topic was due to the necessity of International Airport besides TIA situation due to poor air traffic handling and increase in passenger growth.
Nepal is an under developing country. For its development phase, one of the quick and important infrastructures could be airports. Aviation, consequently, is one such promising high-tech sector that has the potential of steering the country from poverty to prosperity through tourism, trade, and high value export. Beside these, the recent earthquake and frequent runway blockade due to failure of landings has caused an air traffic problems. To minimize these problems and to build new Nepal this could be the first thing to and my design could bring some output.

Project description

The main purpose is to visualize an International Airport in our under developing country. As many problems are being faced and due to lack of architectural and technologies work and knowledge. This project is initiated as to bring out a step for further development phase and designed with proper requirement as meet in International airport.

Technical information

The airport design consist of runways, taxiways, aprons, control tower, cargo, hangers, firefighting, administration, main terminal building and concourses. The planning of the terminal building consist of arrival and departure curbside at 2 different intermediate levels clearly separating the arriving and departing passenger. The central parking is provided with surface parking for short term and underground for staff parking and baggage manage system. The curbside leads to the plaza with steel post that welcomes to the entrance to arrival and departure hall. The hall has central courtyard with walkway within it where passenger can feel the outside from inside. The arriving passenger from aircraft lands and reach the arrival concourse. From the concourse passenger travel to medical checkup area through travelator. All the passenger has to pass the medical and immigration check. After the checking passenger reach the baggage claim hall with baggage carousel of respective aircraft. The hall is also provided with duty free shops. After claiming bag passenger with dutiable goods has to pass through red channel whereas other passes through green channel. Once the passenger passes this area they reach the arrival hall where the meters and greeters awaits for their passengers. The departing passenger from the curbside enters to the departure hall with check-in counters at the end. Once they check-in, passenger fill the embarkment form and lineup for immigration check. After the passenger pass the immigration, the public people and passenger are separated. The passenger then reaches the duty free hall with numerous island counter shops and restaurant on mezzanine floor. After this hall passenger has to pass the final security check before they enter departing concourse hall. The departing concourse consists of 8 number of gates with departing lobby space and few concessionaires with rest and relax spaces at each gates. As the announcement of airline occurs the passenger line up at their respective gates for checking and enter their aircraft directly from the concourse through loading air bridges to their respective aircraft.
