Project idea

The project begins with the question of whether an urban park should serve as a refuge from the city or function as an extension of it. The design aims to reconcile these seemingly opposing roles by creating a space that supports tranquility, social interaction, and everyday urban life simultaneously. By revitalizing Velayat Park as a multifunctional and adaptable public environment, the project proposes a new model of urban landscape one that connects communities, enhances accessibility, and responds to both ordinary and extraordinary needs.

Project description

Situated on the large grounds of Velayat Park, the project redefines the site as a layered urban platform composed of pathways, bridges, green areas, programmed spaces, and diverse access points. The design addresses the park’s major challenge its isolation by highways through elevated and redesigned access routes that ensure seamless pedestrian connectivity. The spatial strategy organizes the park into a spectrum of open, semi-open, and enclosed zones, enabling a balance between relaxation, activity, and community interaction. By integrating flexible programmatic elements, the park becomes both a calm retreat and an active extension of the city.

Technical information

The project is structured through a multi-layered design system incorporating circulation networks, structural bridges, modular grids, and varied landscape elements. Highway-level access is separated from the pedestrian ground plane using elevated connectors and redesigned entry points. Program zones are organized through a scalable grid that accommodates both recreational functions and large-scale uses such as emergency housing when required. Technical strategies emphasize adaptability, integrating lightweight structures, flexible spatial modules, and a resilient landscape framework that supports long-term functionality and diverse user needs.
