embassy and consulate of islamic republic of iran in the italy(borderless embassy)

sajad kaveh
Islamic Republic of Iran

Project idea

The design’s concept is based on historical event that relates to the fight in ancient time between Greece and rome and the embassador of rome who has been sent to iran (perhaps the first example of diplomacy in modern way) according to the story and by remembering the interactions between these two countries in the past, it’s tried to show the tendency of them for continuing interaction based on respect .
Description of history
In the period of romolos’s caesarean (the name of rome if get from the beginning of his name) there was an internal and regional war from the north of this country (maybe near to the contemporary German’s center)in a period of time . as the legion was repressing the demonstrators infestants of the north, romolos got a letter from spart (Greece military capital) based on declaration of Greece’s war with rome. But in that time rome wasn’t able to fight , that’s why he thought of asisty iran for helping them, because iran and achamenian caesarean was one of the enemies of Greece romolos has sent a person to iran as the embassador of giving a letter of him to first daryoosh (great koorosh’s bride groom, spouse of atoosa)that his request about iran’s help was written on it, embassador’s name was terooja who has became famous as great terooja.
Terooja decided to came to iran overland trough contemporary turkey with 100 other fighters because of domination of Greece on Mediterranean but in their half way they were attacked by barbarians and during the fight the hit of an arrow on terooja neck caused his hard blooding, on the other hand he was worried about letter not to he get by fighters, that’s why he torn a part of the leather that the carriage was covered by and he was sitting in, them he fell the letter on the ground by the iteration of giving the letter to daryoosh by retinue. The letter that never has been sent to iran.(the abstract from the part of ancient room book)

Project description

Adapted scenario from historical story and theoretical prineipals in the design.
One of the most important things about designing embassadories is linking between two cultures. In this design there is one of the most important and prominent elements of the most important and prominent elements of rome’s architecture that called triumph in the entrance of site for citizens and Italian people and for those who walks along it not to feel disunion about and see the building combined with their architecture as one when they enter the embassy and consulate by facing with one of their architecture’s elements.
In spite of other triumphs that each of their columns has a statue of martial warlord with his Bilbo and shield there is flower pot at the bottom of them to show the message of peace and Iranian’s hospitality.
According to the issue’s approach that is Iranian garden, it’s important to get perspective enhanced by trees(enhancing perspective by trees), but because of high level of relative humidity in the region columns are used instead of trees(trees increase relative humidity)as passing to memorial columns to the embassy’s site. There are 25 cones that each and of them shows 100 years civilization of iran (altogether 2500 years), beside they emphasis on entrance axis and perspective.
The landscape and site plan are designed by the pattern of chahar bagh, it’s the based of Iranian garden and the first example of landscape gardening too that was started in pasargade(the first exclusive palace of great koroosh(achaemenid king)).the reason of such design is making people familiar with the culture.
There are two small pools with low volume (in order to decrease of site’s relative humidity)after passing the columns and in front of the building that are symbol of sicily and sardinia’s island .the water of pools are provided by subterranean water course, in site plan it’s shown by dash line, this is the symbol of Iranian aqueduct and the reason for hiding under ground is again decreasing relative humidity as it’ was mentioned before and not forgetting this Iranian style that is known as Iranian design all over of the world.
In this site building are designed according to the story that is mentioned at the beginning, but the embassy’s building is designed by direct inspiration of persepolis’s darvazey mellal(thakht jamshid nations gate), as khashayar shah says (it’s the gate of all nations).terooja’s carriage was going to stop there and he has wanted to go trough this gate to give the latter to daryoosh. The windows of embassy are designed according to stone rows of mellal gate too.
The building of consulate is designed based on terooja carriage and is placed acock in the site to induce movement toward the mellal gate. the glassy part of the building that is adapted from the leathery carriage’s part is designed acock too.
There are two bones under the glassy volume that are reminder of carriage’s wheels of terooja and the latter that was fallen on ground is built from stone like an opened latter or scroll, the historical story of the site is written on it in two languages of Italian and Persian. The latter is on the waterfront, in order to hear the popple by passing water on it. this sound can be heared by the use of an Iranian element that is called sineh-kabki in this way a piece of stone is carved like a breast’s feathers of partridge(photo 1-1). In this site ordinary people are allowed to come and go, according to this, there is another cultural building in hear that helps to broadcast iran’s culture.
One of the most important things about designing in this site is sparseness of buildings from each other and the reason is increasing draught around them, this one is one of the basic principles in designing temperate and humid climate regions.
At the end for managing the high level of relative humidity of the region needle trees(trees with a cerate leaves)are planted, some of the traits of such trees are, their low area of the leaves, it causes the latest touch with sunshine, because of being evergreen the embassy’s
site is always green .
