Project idea

House Of Skate in collaboration with VANS Off The Wall is a proposed skate building center with the idea of promoting skateboarding sport to the public youth national and internationally. The idea of collaborating with VANS is one of the idea to promoting the building internationally with VANS's events at the same time VANS brand can promoting and advertise their products at the Skate Center.

The idea of the proposed building is the idea of promoting skateboarding sports at a higher level above ground. Hence the indoor skatepark is designed to be elevated on first floor and enveloped with glass wall to promote the skatepark to the outside.

The building's colors and the building's form are conceptually noted in the elements and movement of skateboarding and also relate to VANS iconic curvilinear shape.

The highest point of the building's roof form resemble the most main spaces of the building to emphasize the hierachy of the spaces.

Project description

Designing Skate Youth Center in collaboration with Vans Off The Wall for the youth local and internationally. There are few main spaces and activities in the building including indoor and outdoor skatepark, VANS retail shop, VANS gallery, cafe, workshop, art studio, performance and gig area and digital studio. All the activities proposed are inspired from 4 pillars of Vans which is SKATE, ART, MUSIC AND STREET CULTURE.

The site is located at Kota Damansara near Sunway Giza Mall.
The proposed site surrounded by residential and commercial
area. Location of the site is connected to public transport.
(lrt and public bus)

Site area : 3 acres
Car park requirement : 40 units (including disable parking) 16 units motorcycle parking

Built up area : 2500 s.q.m - 2800 s.q.m

Technical information

The building is using steel construction system with trusses roof structure for longer span at the main spaces. The idea of using steel roof trusses is to enhance the main spaces which is the indoor skatepark and the performance and gig area without column. Using steel construction also will reduce the construction time and also more economical. 40% of the building roof and wall are made from glass in order to reduce the usage of artificial lighthing during day time.
