Second Life- Waste Construction Material Innovation Hub

Project idea

In order to raise the alertness on the innovation, the innovation hub was designed and functions as a place where innovation on waste to new construction material can be sparkled, rather than just displayed. The innovation hub had named as Second Life- Waste Construction Material Innovation Hub. The innovation hub is to give the second life to the waste turn into construction material. Its help in the issue of landfill and also gas emission that generate by rapid urban development and poor waste management.
Further, the benefit of having innovation on waste and fully developed the advantage into the conceptual planning of the innovation hub as a result, the innovation hub will be a live example for the successful case on developing waste to new construction material to the society. This advance technology will gain public support and increase the community’s appreciation for the new
construction material with regards to the reliability of the material supply, reduced on gas emission, as well as how waste to new construction material can add opportunities and increases more on affordable housing. At the same time, the innovation hub can inform the country of its efforts in the development of low- carbon construction material sources.

Project description

The innovation hub has the potential to become the first building in our country where waste generate the new construction material. The innovation can solve the issues and lacking of technology in our country. Make waste to construction material are popular in others developed country and have significant effect on reducing the waste and landfill issues.
The concept is celebrating the process, is to provide more effective improvement to the existing practices in order to achieve effective construction waste management and to educate and change public perception and mindset. There are three strategic that carried. First, exposed the timber structure due to the highest percentage of construction waste is timber. Second, designed the stage of transformation of waste as a facade where can show the beauty of waste to the public. Third, designed an open innovation process by using material handling and automatic robot to increase the interest on this innovation.
Let people celebrate the beauty of waste through the process either the outlook of the building or the interior design. There is step follow step to change people mindset. Building outlook design just a great first impression to the public and attract people into the building. For the interior design is to share the innovation process to the public by using method of material handling and automatic robot assembly to let people know more on the innovation

Technical information

Furthermore, the propose site was located at a 5m high slope, thus to minimized the impact of environment where had deep dig for basement, the innovation hub have designed ground floor in different level to appreciate the slope. Therefore, it will minimize the work of dig deep and user friendly on design. There are two environmental strategic carried which is proposed wastewater artificial wetland treatment to reuse the wastewater and as part of landscaping and the soil that taken out will used as Ram earth wall in the building.
Besides, for the timber structure of the building, the column and beam had design in 2 different size where main structure used 400 x 400mm and supportive structure used 300 x 300mm.
