Project idea

Rugova mountains are Kosovo’s natural beauty. This is a rocky mountain crest surrounded by woodlands and fields. It’s rich with flora and fauna. Recently, people are building private houses there and one of the requests was addressed to me. The most common and basic shape of the house was the starting point of the design/concept. To reach the privacy of the open spaces/terraces (because of the possibility for future construction), and for wind/snow protection I had to push the western part of the shape inside. The same idea was applied to emphasize the entrance as well. Taking into account that the best view was in the western part of the house, it had to be all transparent. In this way, house is under sun exposure and
protected from atmospheric conditions at the same time. Functionally it is divided in four clear modules(A,B,C and D). Module A covers open spaces, B is stay/relax module, C is connection module, whereas D sleeping /service module. All these modules are connected with each other in a way that they make easy the functionality of the house, but also its construction. House with the dimensions 5x8m has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and living room with terrace. All interior spaces are designed with local timber. House is build from timber and reinforced concrete structure. Clearly the connection between these two materials needs the support of steel amplifiers. Transportation was the main problem of the construction, therefore it was realized by prefabricated structures. Timber was applied in a combination with black metal in the facades of the house, meeting the nature and spirit of the area. With a very limited budget we had, all the materials were from local producers, but at the end we managed to control the budget and finish it on time.
