Luca Donner is Assistant Professor at American University in the Emirates while he previously held academic positions at Canadian University Dubai as well as in Italy at the Universities of Ferrara, Padova, Udine and Brescia. Luca holds a PhD in Architecture from Lusiada University of Lisbon and a MArch from IUAV University of Venice. He is co-founder and design director of Donner Sorcinelli Architecture (www.doso.it), an award-winning Architecture Atelier, which pays specific attention to the theme of sustainable and affordable design in all its variants. His works have been extensively published in books and magazines (i.e. Arqa, Ottagono, d’Architectures, Concept) as well as exhibited in international venues as Architecture Biennale of Venice, The Architecture Foundation London, Van Alen Institute of New York. He has been also keynote speaker in congresses as well as jury member in international competitions including the Exhibition Design of the Korean Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

According to me - 'Teaching, is a continuous learning process!'Teaching happened to me by chance early in my career, but the satisfaction that came with it made me take it up as my full time career. I have been part of Faculty of Architecture, Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research Institute, Chennai, INDIA., since 2011. I have approached my design studios in collaborative, exploratory, experimental and interdisciplinary ways. Participation in national & international competitions has been a regular activity for my students to constantly understand where they stand among their peers globally as well as nationally. Spatial design responsive to senses and responsible to environment has been my guiding design philosophy. I am currently pursuing my doctoral research in Architectural Pedagogy. My other interests are Learning spaces, Vernacular interiors, Sustainable interiors, etc. Students under my guidance have won 3 international awards (Organised by AIA Austin, Appio Spagnolo), 3 national awards (DDA, Ethosempowers) & 2 national short listing (Council of Architecture India, AYDA Nippon).

From single-family residences to multi-unit developments, my designs emphasize comfort, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. By nurturing a sense of belonging and well-being, I strive to provide environments that support daily activities and foster meaningful social connections. In the realm of sports design, I thrive on the challenges and opportunities presented by crafting immersive environments for athletes, spectators, and the wider community. Specializing in sports facilities such as stadiums, arenas, and training centers, I integrate innovative design solutions with a profound understanding of sports culture and technology. The result is a seamless blend of form and function, creating memorable experiences for all stakeholders.
