As an architect and founder of Omar Harb Architects & Associates, my work centers on creating meaningful spaces that bridge cultural heritage with contemporary needs. I approach architecture as a critical dialogue between context, climate, and community—merging environmental responsibility with functional design. With a deep interest in the socio-political narratives of the built environment, particularly in post-conflict urban settings, my practice is rooted in exploring architecture’s role as both witness and agent of change. Through teaching, research, and built work across diverse scales, I remain committed to thoughtful design that resonates with place, purpose, and people.

My architectural focus is deeply rooted in urban design and the creation of sustainable environments that prioritize human mental well-being. I strive to enhance cities through innovative placemaking, the development of human-centered smart cities, and the design of restorative environments. By integrating eco-conscious strategies, I aim to promote long-term livability and resilience in urban settings. Furthermore, my expertise in landscape architecture and public space design is centered on fostering environments that support mental health and encourage social interactions. With a strong foundation in neuroscience and architectural and urban psychology, I am particularly interested in how urban settings influence cognitive and emotional responses. Utilizing advanced research techniques such as EEG and VR, I work to advance human-centric design that not only meets the needs of the present but also shapes healthier, more connected communities for the future.

My architectural focus centers on the holistic approach a designer or architect takes in addressing user ergonomics, creating a comfortable and functional space that aligns with human physical needs. Equally important is the emphasis on environmental considerations, ensuring that the design not only minimizes ecological impact but also integrates sustainable practices, materials, and energy-efficient solutions. The goal is to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also support the well-being of users and promote environmental responsibility, contributing to long-term sustainability.

As a student, I worked a lot on the subject of building in existing buildings. Some of my university projects have been awarded in several national competitions in Germany. Now I work as an architect full time specializing in heritage conservation. I am responsible for the extensive renovation and preservation of the Weißenhofsiedlung, World Heritage Site in Stuttgart. The topic of dealing intelligently and respectfully with existing structures is what I am personally most interested in.
