Project idea

Place. The space to work is a self-built housing. Located in a corner of La '' Y '' 5 de Julio crossroads that gives its name to one of the sectors of the densest neighborhood of Caracas, Petare. This enclosure, which served during its last period. As a game room and office for the traffic of drugs and weapons, was identified as a place Important to operate from the programmatic in the processes of collective transformation. It is a two storey building. A primer level of housing itself, distributed in 120 m2 different rooms and segregated and connected by a central aisle, devoid of ventilation and natural lighting, with only presence of small window openings in the front of facade. Plus a higher level of unfinished buildings and slats waiting of future growth. Perimetrically, a ladder that ascends in the neighborhood among a multitude of dwellings. Methodology: The first challenge was the articulation of the different agents involved in the process, the community, the different participating groups, institutions and other actors. Our strategy, to form four teams transversally connected: Design, Identity, Activities and Communication. Design, worked on the definition of the program, Strategies and tactics for rehabilitation and planning the work. Identity, defined the corporate image, the name and the symbolic elements associated with the project. Organizing of a program of events that would take place during the course of the work to activate the space and its future uses. Communication, developed a documentation work that allowed transmit the activity both inside and outside
Of the community from a blog that collected the day to day of the work. In the joint analysis and diagnosis, the basic needs and generated the consensus
To work on common goals. The taking of decisions was achieved through a process in which tactical solutions were combined in of direct action, from a binomial of character operational, flexible, able to adapt to the context and respond to the conjectural and logistical issues. And to all changes or variations that went away. Debugging in the process itself. This methodology procedural and dynamic, under the "To learn and to do", was the one that made possible the execution of the project within the set deadline.

Project description

Draft. The starting point is the integral transformation of self-built housing, solving pathologies, carrying out sanitation and reinforcement work for its recovery as a space community use.

The basic need on which all intervention is the construction of a sports court to replace the improvised board of the street. Thus, the platabanda is occupied with a court of basketball, its associated devices and an outdoor terrace that complements it in the development of various recreational activities.

The first level serves a broader program responds to needs identified in the the course of the project. The whole plant freed is reconfigured to house arecording, multipurpose workshop, computer room, living room, bathrooms and kitchen.

The entrance to the house is now an open space which functions as a binding place between the inside and the outside, the staircase and the street establishing a new reading of public space.

Technical applications such as support and realization. Parasitic interventions to the source infrastructure, the outer enclosure as a support for a future envelopment that unifies the volume morphology edified, and qualities like the swelling, hybridizations and enhancement of preexistence are the keys to signifying the intervention.

Technical information

The project was developed on the site, the program was proposed together with the community and the rest of the project was developed along with the construction, that is why the details, finished were solved in real time. All documents, plans and drawings were developed after the building was completed. A process of architecture was planted in reverse, an opportunity to rethink the trade and its relationship with the client, in this case with an entire community.
