The Relau Durian Experiential Farm is designed as an immersive journey that takes visitors through the world of durian, from its cultural roots to modern-day significance.

Project description

The building's circulation is carefully planned to guide users through a senies of thoughtfully curated spaces, each highlighting a unique aspect of the durian experience. The journey begins with a ramp, which not only provides access but offers panoramic views, setting the tone for the immersive experience. The ramp acts as a transition, blending the outside world with a space dedicated to leamning, exploration, and enjoyment. The design incorporates an intuitive circulation path that unfolds progressively, allowing visitors to engage with the durian in various dimensions—learning, experiencing, and enjoying. Each space contributes to a larger narative, providing a holistic understanding of durian farming, its culural significance, and its future potential. Drawing inspiration from the distinctive form of the durian, the building is envisioned as an open durian, with two blocks creating a welcoming central space. This architectural gesture encourages visitors to walk into the durian, immersing them in an engaging experience that deepens their understanding of the fruit and its role in the region's heritage.
The open public space between the two blocks serves as a central gathering area, connecting visitors to the surroundings and enhancing their interaction with the farm. The building's façade is inspired by the durian's shar, spiky exterior, with steel crisscross curtain walls that not only enhance the aesthetic but also function as an effective sun-shading device, aligning with sustainable tropical design principles.

Technical information

The construction is a combination of concrete and timber with a highlight at the center of electrochromic glass roof with a glulam superstructure.
