Project idea

-To design a compact café using shipping containers as a modular and sustainable architectural solution.
-To explore efficient space utilization within limited dimensions while ensuring user comfort.
-To create a cozy, welcoming environment that encourages reading, relaxation, and social interaction.
-To integrate a small bookstore within the café to enhance its cultural and intellectual value.
-To respond contextually to the surroundings of Dhaka University by providing a student-friendly breakout space.
-To demonstrate the potential of container architecture as a flexible, cost-effective design approach.

Project description

Spatial Planning: Efficient zoning of café services, seating areas, and bookstore within a compact footprint.
Indoor–Outdoor Relationship: Use of a split container to create a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor seating.
Climate Responsiveness: Proper ventilation, shading, and daylight control suitable for Dhaka’s warm and humid climate.
Materiality: Use of container steel structure combined with warm interior finishes to achieve a cozy ambiance.
User Experience: Comfortable seating, appropriate lighting, and clear circulation for students and visitors.
Context: Visual and functional integration with the university environment and surrounding pedestrian flow.
