The design concept is convergence of nature, culture and knowledge. That is where the idea was taken from — intersecting waves — as a metaphor of merging different identities, narratives, and ecologies in one space. Architecturally, the building form flows like ocean currents joining organic lines, bamboo and timber textures with Islamic-batik motifs into symbols of unity between tradition and innovation. In space, it moves from the heritage precincts at the water’s edge to new state-of-the-art marine education facilities, symbolic of growing cultural and ecological awareness.
The design goal is developing a sustainable learning icon that acts as a cultural chronicle while opening the pathway to marine exploration.
-Conserving and reinterpreting local maritime traditions for the next generation.
-Educating visitors about ocean preservation through immersive, sensory spaces.
-Promoting belonging and continuity where design is made to carry Malaysia’s cultural legacy in motion.
“Tides of Convergence” rejoices the meeting of culture, community, and the ocean. The design seeks to reconnect people with Malaysia’s maritime heritage by merging traditional coastal craftsmanship and marine science into a single experience journey. By adopting an architectural approach that takes its cue from both tidal movements and historical knowledge, the center becomes a living cultural legacy — one that teaches, heals, and inspires stewardship for the ocean. The project main area is welcoming lobby and ocean heritage gallery. The ocean heritage gallery display the most precious ocean heritage to attract users and educate them to protect the ocean.
