Project idea

The project responds to the growing problem of declining sleep quality among urban residents. It aims to reduce factors that negatively influence sleep, such as stress, lack of physical activity, and the absence of a quiet learning environment. The spatial layout is based on a clear division into zones, each supporting different needs—relaxation, physical activity, and focused work. This diversity allows users to engage with the space according to their personal preferences and daily rhythms. The design encourages healthy habits and creates a calm, balanced environment within the dense urban fabric.

Project description

The project involves the redevelopment of a residential courtyard located between Kassyusza, Galla Anonima, Kadłubka, and Szamarzewskiego streets in Poznań. The design introduces a clear functional division of the space into active and quiet zones, responding to the diverse needs of residents. The relaxation area includes a small square with a fountain, a study building with soundproof acoustic pods, and gardens that encourage calm through contact with nature. The active zone features a children’s playground and stepped seating that supports spontaneous meetings and physical activity. These two areas are separated by a change in terrain and a dense line of trees, which help reduce noise and ensure a sense of calm in the quieter part of the block.

Technical information

The project uses a mix of natural and practical materials to create a comfortable and inviting space. Paths and the main square are made of permeable concrete pavers, which help with water drainage and provide a solid surface to walk on. The children’s playground is covered with a soft rubber surface that ensures safety and comfort. Wood is used for benches, garden edges, and some play structures to add warmth and a natural feel. The study pavilion has a lightweight steel frame, soundproof walls, and large glass windows to create a quiet and bright place. Trees, shrubs, and garden beds help divide the space, reduce noise, and make the area more pleasant and green.
