Project idea

The project of an individual residential house (cottage) was developed within the framework of an architectural competition and represents a modern architectural solution focused on harmonious interaction with the environment, functionality and expressiveness of forms.

The idea of the project is to create a compact, rational in layout and expressive in architectural appearance living space, combining privacy and openness, the traditional logic of an apartment building and modern plastic techniques. The concept is based on the desire for clarity of spatial composition and the relationship between the interior and the external architectural form.

Context and objectives:
The project is supposed to be implemented in a low-rise suburban development. The architectural language of the building is based on the principles of modern minimalism with respect for the human scale and landscape environment. The main objectives of the design were:
• creating a comfortable and intuitive living environment for a family of 4-6 people;
• providing a logical planning structure with a clear zoning of rooms by function and floor;
• creation of expressive facades, taking into account the orientation to the cardinal directions and the internal logic of the premises;
• implementation of constructive solutions that ensure energy efficiency and durability of the building;
• maintaining a balance between aesthetics and functionality of the architectural solution.

The facades of the building are designed with sunlight and privacy in mind. The southern and eastern facades involve active interaction with the site, while the northern and western facades are more closed and restrained. The planning structure is clearly organized vertically and horizontally: the day area is located on the ground floor, the private area is on the second floor, which is also emphasized in the section.

The project demonstrates a modern approach to private architecture that combines logic, conciseness, respect for people and space.

Project description

The spatial solution of the projected cottage is based on the principles of functional logic, compositional clarity and contextual relevance. The architecture of the building is a compact, well-organized two-story rectangular volume with balanced proportions and rhythmically organized facades.

The main volume of the building is designed as a simple parallelepiped, complemented by local accents — projections, terraces and openings that emphasize the key functions of the interior. The composition forms a solid silhouette with an emphasis on horizontal and vertical divisions, including due to glazing, the rhythm of window openings and shifts in the plane of the facade.

The high-rise structure of the building includes two full-fledged ground floors:
• The first floor serves as a communal living area. It contains an entrance hall, a kitchen-dining room, a living room, a bathroom and technical rooms, as well as a master bedroom. The spaces are logically interconnected, creating an open but zoned environment.
• The second floor is reserved for private functions — bedrooms, bathroom, wardrobe. The layout allows for comfort, privacy and optimal lighting of living spaces.

Vertical communication is carried out through a staircase located in the central part of the house, which ensures equal accessibility of all areas. The interior space is organized around functional axes that create a clear hierarchy of rooms.

Facade solutions emphasize the internal structure of the house. Panoramic glazing is provided in the southern and eastern parts, ensuring maximum influx of natural light into the main residential areas and visual connection with the site. The northern and western facades are more enclosed, which contributes to thermal efficiency and privacy.

Thus, the scope of the design solution reflects the desire for architectural integrity, constructive rationality and aesthetics of modern suburban housing.

Technical information

1. General provisions:
The project is being developed as part of an architectural competition to create an individual residential building for permanent residence of a family of 4-6 people. The building should be energy efficient, functionally comfortable, conforming to modern architectural standards and organically integrated into the natural and urban environment.

2. The main characteristics of the object:
• Building type: individual residential building;
• Number of floors: 2 above-ground floors;
• Structural scheme: load-bearing exterior and interior walls, interstory floors;
• Total area: determined by the project (approximately 250-300 m2);
• Dimensions in the plan: according to the architectural documentation;
• Height of floors: 1st floor — at least 3.7 m, 2nd floor — at least 3.7 m;
• Roof: flat.

3. Functional and planning requirements:
• 1st floor: entrance hall with wardrobe, bathroom, kitchen-dining room, living room, technical room/boiler room, study, guest bedroom and master bedroom.
• 2nd floor: 2 additional bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, walk-in closets;
• Vertical connection — internal staircase;
• A terrace facing south or east is possible, as well as partial glazing of the facades for insolation.

4. Architectural and planning requirements:
• Clear logic of zoning and circulation;
• Compact and cost-effective planning solutions;
• Orientation of living rooms to the cardinal directions (living room and dining room — east, bedrooms — south/north/east/west);
• Possibility of expansion or transformation of individual rooms during further operation;
• Modern, concise architectural appearance, elements of minimalism are acceptable.

5. Constructive and engineering solutions (within the framework of the architectural stage):
• Exterior walls — preferably made of energy-efficient materials (aerated concrete, ceramics, SIP, etc.);
• Foundations — strip or slab (according to site conditions);
• Engineering systems — water supply, heating, ventilation, electricity supply with built-in routes;
• Energy efficiency — minimization of heat loss, rational glazing.
