The main objective of the intervention at the Santa Maria del Piano Abbey is to generate a design proposal that allows for the optimal use of space and the creation of the atmospheres required for the activities to be carried out within the project, all while respecting the cultural and historical significance of the abbey.
The main idea of the project is to achieve a balance between the heritage and the architectural intervention itself. This is achieved through a contrast between the existing masonry walls and the new added metal structure, with wooden accents in different areas. All of this aims to preserve and follow the original silhouette of the space, in order to allow users to have a unique experience, whether using the meditation rooms or one of the workshops located within the main nave of the building.
This project consist on the following areas: Meditation Room, Bathroom, An exterior meditation área, a dining area with a space for food preparation, a workshop room, and a 360 viewpoint.
The main structure of the project is made of steel columns and beams with wooden pannels to provide a warm enviroment, with a curtain wall cover with glass panels and aluminum frames over the main structure of the abbey
