Equestrian sports complex based on Olympic Reserve School

Project idea

The Olympic Reserve Equestrian School was established in 1976 and is currently the leading center in the Kaluga region for the training of athletes. The objective of this project is to reconstruct the existing Olympic Reserve equestrian school and transform it into a modern sports center that will serve as a place of attraction for all residents of the city.

Project description

The area of the territory is 13.76 hectares
The total area of the racetrack building is 13261 m2
Building area – 18501m2
Surface parking area – 1290 m2
Landscaping area – 11.9 hectares
The building has 4 floors.
Number of rooms – 52
Among them:
• Standard double rooms – 8
• Double sports - 28
• Four–seater - 16
The number of seats in the restaurant is 88
Number of stables – 4
The capacity of the stables is 147 horses.
The territory has developed:
• 8 battlefields of various sizes in accordance with the requirements for each discipline,
• large sports arena
• the racetrack building, which includes:
• the hotel,
• restaurant,
• sweepstakes
• bar
• exhibition space
• the stands
• veterinary clinic
• Educational center
The stands are located on the ground floor, as well as a large restaurant for all visitors of the complex. On the inside, under the stands, there is a space for a public toilet and technical rooms.
The hotel is based on the second and third floors, where athletes and spectators can stay. There are 3 types of rooms in the hotel: double and quadruple rooms with a separate dressing room for sportswear, as well as standard double rooms. For hotel guests, there is a separate exit to the closed stands located on the 2nd tier. There is a fitness room, as well as a lobby with a bar overlooking the racetrack.
There is a sweepstake, a communal bar and exhibition spaces on the fourth floor, where historical photographs related to this place and the development of the equestrian industry in the Kaluga region, various diplomas and awards of Olympic Reserve school students can be presented.

Technical information

The architecture of the buildings surrounding the territory shows the role of Soviet modernism in shaping the architectural appearance. In addition, the city of Kaluga itself has many examples of such architecture. Since the racetrack building is located within the city, the main idea was to connect its appearance with the surroundings, while adding modern details. Preserving the functionality and rationality of rhythmic architecture, with a clear division into zones, adding color accents, panoramic glazing to modernize the object. The building is supported by metal columns. The total volume of the building is made of concrete. The roof, made in the form of a pergola, is made of metal and glass
