Project idea

Dhamar is located near the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, and because the capital is close to it, it suffers from a lack of a suitable location for an airport. The airport currently in use was designed as a military airport, but it is used as a civilian airport due to necessity and the country's limited resources. The topography of the capital is not suitable for the construction of an international airport. Therefore, the government undertook preliminary studies to establish an international airport in Dhamar Governorate in 2006, with international specifications befitting Yemen's status. However, due to circumstances and wars, construction was halted. Hence, the desire to design a model befitting Yemen's status and cultural identity emerged. The design idea was inspired by the Yemeni janbiya, which is distinguished by its unique characteristics and is considered one of the most important cultural symbols and a significant component of Yemeni heritage and society. It is a symbol of Yemeni identity, culture, social status, strength, and pride, distinguishing Yemeni civilization from other civilizations of the world.
