Project idea

The Heritage and Tourism Center design is inspired by the region’s traditional architecture, featuring a prominent stone wall that defines the entrance. This element honors local heritage, enhances visual appeal, and invites visitors to explore what lies beyond.

Project description

The Heritage and Tourism Center in Kyrenia is a vibrant hub designed to celebrate the city’s rich history and dynamic present. The center features a defined entrance crafted from traditional local materials, echoing the architectural language of Kyrenia’s past. Visitors can explore a variety of indoor and outdoor exhibitions that showcase local heritage, crafts, and contemporary interpretations of culture. A lively street market winds through the site, offering handmade goods, local produce, and authentic experiences. At the heart of the center lies a welcoming central plaza, a flexible gathering space for performances, community events, and daily social interaction, making the center a vital destination for both locals and tourists.

Technical information

The Heritage and Tourism Center in Kyrenia features a steel space frame structure supported by distinctive V-shaped columns, allowing for wide, open interior and exterior spaces. The structure is clad in Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GRFP) panels, which are lightweight, durable, and shaped to reflect traditional textures. This system combines modern engineering with a design that respects and enhances the local cultural context.
