Project idea

The project envisions transforming Gönyeli Belediye Boulevard in Nicosia into a vibrant “Art Corridor” that seamlessly integrates architecture, art, commerce, and urban life. The idea is to create a sensory-driven urban experience that invites people to interact, reflect, and connect through a carefully designed public space.

Project description

This graduation project reimagines Gönyeli Belediye Boulevard as a dynamic cultural artery in the heart of Nicosia. Through the lens of sensory architecture, the design aims to engage users on emotional and physical levels, using spatial qualities that appeal to all five senses. The project blends creative public installations, commercial activity, and community interaction to create a living, breathing urban gallery. It balances the historical identity of the area with contemporary aspirations, enhancing the urban fabric while celebrating artistic expression.

Special emphasis is placed on light manipulation, shadow play, and spatial flow to elevate the experience of movement and pause along the corridor. The architecture becomes a medium of emotional storytelling, engaging the senses through texture, scent, acoustics, and rhythm. The result is a multi-sensory urban intervention that turns everyday journeys into immersive, meaningful experiences.

Technical information

The project is constructed using a steel frame structure, allowing for flexibility, durability, and ease of assembly. Materials such as exposed steel, concrete, wood, and perforated metal are used to enhance the sensory experience. The design incorporates passive ventilation, dynamic shading systems, and varied surface textures to support environmental responsiveness and user comfort.
