This project challenges the rigidity of conventional apartment layouts by proposing a spatial composition that aligns with the emotional distance between residents. Just as clothing translates one's emotional state into physical distance, this residential architecture uses "curtains" as flexible boundaries to reflect interpersonal dynamics. The dwelling is reconceptualized not as a fixed container, but as a “dressed-up private room” shaped by the resident’s will.
The project utilizes a unique grid composed of squares and equilateral triangles (each side 3200mm) and stacks floors in half-level increments, enabling vertical spatial connections. Each unit includes a core (bedroom, bathroom) surrounded by flexible spaces defined by curtains. The type and manipulation of the curtains dynamically transform the spatial boundaries and atmosphere. The overall residential complex maintains a gentle continuity while allowing each resident to personalize their spatial "distance."
The structure features floors stacked in half-story increments, with units staggered to create visual and acoustic overlaps. Each unit can install multiple curtain rails, and a new rental system is proposed where rent varies depending on the number of curtain rails contracted. Various curtain types (e.g., blackout, lace, mesh) allow for nuanced control of light, sound, and privacy, enabling residents to finely adjust the quality and boundaries of their living space.
