Project idea

The idea of the project was to design a space based on a selected music piece.
After listening to “The Introvert” by Michael Kobrin I had to extract the emotions that I felt and create the space that reflects them physically.

Project description

I analysed each emotion by three contradicting values: openness/contraction, brightness/darkness and activity/passiveness, then designed spaces that mirror their character. To define the size of spaces of felt emotions I measured the length of each motive from the music piece - I was able to extract time modules that contributed to creating a grid by which motives were distributed.

Since the piece has a spacious character, the installation is situated at Lake Malta in Poznań, Poland. After examining its surroundings, key features could be determined. The centre of darkness and contraction is closer to the bay and the centre of brightness and openness is in the middle of the lake. Therefore the perception of these features could be amplified by stretching the path to the centres matching the properties of the motives.
Time modules determined the length of each motive.

Technical information

Construction is made of concrete and steel, referring to the rowing track nearby. The ramps are adjusted to the legal regulations for people moving via wheelchairs.
