The goal was to design a small-scale object or group of objects as a complementary function to the existing recreational glamping site. Located 400 meters from the village of Dlouhý Újezd, the glamping site "Louže" sits nestled in the landscape. The complex consists of four residential cabins and four auxiliary pavilions (3 designed by someone else and one by me). As part of the site, I designed a music pavilion.
The concept is based on the connection of two spaces and a wedge-shaped volume. Approaching via a metal-grate path, the musician arrives to the black steel wedge entryway. Climbing the steps and entering through a door, they step into the larger of the two spaces. This piano room features a high ceiling and the first circular window offering a view into the denser forest beyond the stream. A bench lines the wall. Around the wedge’s corner, stairs lead to a smaller, more intimate space. This cozy nook includes a corner sofa, a bookshelf, and the second circular window with views of the sky and tree canopies. The musician is illuminated by inspiration just as they are by light. The interior atmosphere is defined by exposed CLT wall panels, contrasted with black steel elements. The third circular window embedded in the floor completes the triad, framing a view of the forest stream below.
The pavilion is designed with sustainability in mind. It is anchored using steel ground screws, minimizing impact on the terrain and allowing for easy disassembly. The load-bearing structure is composed of CLT panels, insulated with mineral wool, and clad in a facade of larch shingles.
