Project idea

The idea behind KITARVERSE is rooted in the growing concern over waste generation in Malaysia, especially among university students who are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact of population garbage. With more than 32 million people contributing to the nation's waste daily, poor waste management has led to pollution, health hazards, and ecological imbalance. KITARVERSE was developed as a creative solution, a sustainability-driven concept that promotes recycling, upcycling, and responsible consumption in everyday living. It aims to reduce waste by making recycling more accessible, intuitive, and integrated into community spaces, while also raising awareness about the importance of reusing and repurposing materials.

Project description

KITARVERSE is envisioned as a community-focused Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Redesign Center that simplifies and promotes sustainable living through thoughtful design. It combines environmental responsibility with creativity by incorporating reclaimed materials and giving new life to old objects. The center is divided into seven key zones: a centralized recycle machine area for ease of access and convenience, a gastronomy zone to encourage social and cultural connections through food, and an information area to educate visitors on sustainability. There's also an exhibition space to guide users through themed recycling topics (like plastic or e-waste), a fertilizer area to process food waste, and various green spaces such as vertical gardens and hanging planters that enhance the overall environment. A special upcycling retail area allows creative individuals to display and sell products made from reused materials, making sustainability both practical and inspiring.

Technical information

KITARVERSE’s design approach focuses on sustainability through material reuse and energy-efficient practices. It uses a mix of salvaged and reclaimed items including wood, glass, metal, vintage furniture, and even unconventional items like wine bottles, tires, and pallets to create functional and visually unique interior features such as shelves, seating, or wall partitions. These elements not only reduce the need for new resources but also bring character and storytelling to the space. Eco-friendly paints, finishes, and energy-efficient lighting are incorporated to ensure minimal environmental impact. The design encourages the use of green materials and natural ventilation while offering a modular layout that supports adaptability. By doing so, KITARVERSE provides a space that’s not only sustainable but also vibrant, educational, and community-centered inspiring users to adopt these values beyond the building itself.
