The kindergarten building is currently in operation but in a severely deteriorated condition.
The project brief calls for the reconstruction of the kindergarten located on Velehradská Street in Bratislava. The objective is to redesign both the spatial layout and interior appearance in order to create a high-quality environment conducive to children's daily activities and well-being.
Equally, the aim is to provide staff with appropriate workspaces, support facilities, and dedicated hygienic zones, ensuring functionality, comfort, and spatial efficiency in line with contemporary standards for early childhood education environments.
The proposed kindergarten renovation on Velehradská Street responds to the need to increase capacity and improve the functional layout of the existing building.
An additional benefit of the proposal is the separation of staff operational areas, ensuring a higher level of comfort and functional background for teachers, the principal, and non-pedagogical personnel.
Direct access to the courtyard from the classrooms is consistent with the principles of the Montessori educational method, which emphasizes natural environments and sensory-based learning.
The proposed design also introduces a new multipurpose hall for children’s performances and extends the layout to include a dedicated sleeping zone and hygienic facilities for each classroom, further supporting a child-centered, pedagogically responsive spatial environment.
The design aims to retain the existing load-bearing structural system while reconfiguring the internal layout through the demolition and reorganization of interior partitions. The result is a more open spatial arrangement that offers greater flexibility of use, thereby reinforcing the concept of multifunctionality within the space.
