Nowadays people in the Nevada state in the usa, have come up to a huge problem, a lack of education, although nevada has experience a fast growth in economy since the rise of las vegas, education stays unchanged, people in nevada are known for being uneducated, one of the least educated state in the united states, the most uneductaed in the west coast. I'm from indonesia, everyone I know that wants to study in america, wants to go to places like california, new york, or texas, nobody ever talks about nevada, and I always think that if a country or a specific place doesn't have a strong foundation in education, "will" lead to problems. So my goal and expectation to the library design I made, is that it may build an interest in reading and studying in all the nevada people, but I get it that people often feel lazy to go to a library on purpose. So I used a trick that I see useful on a loy of people I know, we often feel curious to one uniquely designed building in a lot of simillar buildings. We might not know what's in that building or what it's for, but we get curious, that building looks different from the others, and it attracts us to find out, so it automatically attracts people just through it's unique design, and I've putted this mindset into my design.
This project was inspired by a traditional indonesian house from sulawesi, called toraja house, and I used the most commonly used material in indonesia for roofs, orange ceramic, to cover the whole building up, that it can blend in with nevada's desert very well, and i stretched the whole structure of it to two opposote ways that it may extend longer and creates more space inside, and I added glass wall on both face of the building that sunlight may go in, and the entrace will be from under the arc, I used half of the building only for the entrace, and the other half may allow cars and vehicles to drive thru.
The structure and pillars of the building will only be holded in one side, and the otherside will rely on the force from the one with strong structures in it, and it will all be covered by ceramics, and for the end of each side will be covered using planks and glass, the entrace will be under the arc that connects the two building, and is covered fully with glass, main structure will be made of steel concrete bars, shaping it out first, and then cover it fully with ceramics, and it will not be fully sealed, there will be gaps left in between ceramics, to imprpve the air circulation. inside will be fully made of wood and air conditioning to provide a cozy and comfortable place to read or relax.
