Project idea

This beautiful, simple layout gives all students, faculty, and visitors an easy flow of experiences and education. The secured, yet open spaced, school gives a fresh feeling that allows everyone to be comfortable and in a community, rather than just forced around an institution. As a student, I love the idea of feeling free with little to no worries. The easily accessible sidewalks lead to spaces that have many private and public sections. The area may be smaller than a city, but the people inside here will be as strong together as one.

Project description

I am very proud of the multiple ideas that I have created. The roofs from the entrance mimic the assembly hall, and they both point skyward towards the Zambian flag in the center (connected to the outside assembly hall's stage). More with the roofs, their simple geometry, with some wavy roofs towards the front, show a flow of a more futuristic/rich facade. The majority of the roofs help tremendously with collecting rain water, where most of them come down to a certain single location. The assembly hall's inground seats also help with cooling in a large area. With my larger designed buildings, they all stand creatively and are simply beautiful. Down to smaller locations, such as the dorms, they have their own well structured communal areas- this helps the student walk outside and see peers/friends, and not just a school in front of them. The balance between geometry, structures, symmetry, flow of the walk ways, big single buildings, small connected buildings, and down to the beautiful nature that surrounds in and out of the school, all help keep the students imagining without a being around the same thing. Everywhere you stand in this school, you will see a new view, a new path, and a complete future.

Technical information

All of the exterior walls of every building should be created out of the same idea. My best solution for the most supportive and pleasing walls to apply are adobe. The interior walls can also be great and be created with adobe or a simple partition. Floors are regular concrete foundation, with grout between that and decorated stone tiles. This will all keep the hot sun from beating into rooms, and keeping the floors cold. The roofs should be made of a nice light, reflective material. My greatest option, especially for local resources and cost, would be corrugated galvanized sheet metal roofs. The roof should be a nice light gray and have lowered corrugated ridges. The second story in the assembly hall would have columns underneath- made of metal beams with adobe brick surrounding it. For the flooring on the second floor, this should have lighter materials, such as wooden joists with plywood. A lightweight material, such as backer boards, to install a nice tiled finish over it. Roofs should be mainly opened for ventilation, but places like dorms should be well insulated for sound proofing and energy efficiency.
