Project idea

This thesis proposes a new typology for a public space by reimagining the public library as an interactive knowledge and culture exchange hub. The library is transformed from being just a source of information to a place for people to connect, exchange knowledge, and engage in cultural activities.
The project operates on three levels. First, it suggests creating flexible spaces that promote interaction and discussions among users, rather than just storing books. Second, it proposes combining library space with other components such as co-working spaces, galleries, and performance areas to create a cultural center that is active and relevant to the community. Finally, the design aims to create an open and inclusive public space that blurs the boundaries between different types of public institutions.
The project explores the role of architecture in revitalizing public spaces and institutions. By reimagining the public library as an interactive
knowledge and culture exchange hub, this thesis provides a model for creating dynamic public spaces that meet the needs of diverse communities.

Project description

My concept for the library project is "Breaking the Barrier", which involves transforming the traditional, box-like architecture of the public library in Bangladesh into an interactive knowledge and culture exchange hub that encourages community engagement and learning.
The redesigned library will feature an open and fluid floor plan that promotes interaction between visitors, with a variety of spaces for group work, socializing, and individual study. Additionally, the library will incorporate new functions such as workshops, events, and exhibits that will encourage people to visit on a daily basis.
To create a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere, the library will be designed to be environmentally friendly, with sustainable materials and natural light. The overall goal is to create a dynamic space that serves as a cultural hub for the community, where people can come together to share knowledge and ideas.
By breaking down the physical and social barriers of the traditional library, the new design will promote education and literacy in Bangladesh and create a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Technical information

The construction of the project is made of steel and post-lintel combined structure.
