Project idea

The project aimed to capture a sense of tranquility amidst the bustling chaos of Dhaka, an overpopulated city plagued by traffic and noise pollution. The primary objective was to create a haven within the urban landscape, offering people a respite from the city's mayhem. The intention was to establish a space where individuals could momentarily escape the urban frenzy, reconnect with nature, and experience a serene and poetic atmosphere.

Project description

The project was conceived to be adaptable to any open space. During the design phase, the challenge revolved around determining what elements induce a sense of calmness in people. To address this, I delved into various lectures on the subject. The incorporation of an Oculus in the space serves to bathe the entire area in light, creating an enlightening experience for individuals. Additionally, a banyan tree was strategically planted, providing a focal point for people to concentrate on, thereby instilling a profound sense of calmness. The trees also serve as natural buffers within the Oculus. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese philosophy that still water symbolizes peace of mind, the project aims to connect people with Mother Nature, offering them an escape from the chaos of the city and fostering a Calm environment.

Technical information

The construction primarily utilized white-textured Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) to evoke a divine ambiance within the space. The use of thick RCC not only enhances soundproofing, shielding the interior from the clamor of the bustling city, but also contributes to cultivating a serene atmosphere, allowing individuals to experience tranquility within.
