Project idea

The site is located in Dingjia block, Haishu District, Ningbo, east of Fenghua

Jiang, near the Lishe International Airport, belongs to the suburbs, the collective limit is 50M high. But otherwise it's not much different from downtown, temporarily a "lost place" but still, if you can, a "Little Manhattan."

The first inhabitants there were small subsistence farmers

Economy, under the wave of industrialization was demolished. The site was designated as an industrial zone due to its proximity to the river for shipping purposes. Huge factories began to appear, and a second group of residents were replaced by workers who worked nearby. Now with the arrival of the fourth technological revolution, the original low-end industry is no longer suitable

The trend and gradually abandoned, is about to replace it is high-tech industry, the second large-scale demolition quietly. The urban design is developed in the above background.

Project description

It is not easy to complete a vision of future city within this limited plot, which requires both a certain landing and a certain transcendence.

Back to the future is a design philosophy that does both. When we lose ourselves in the rush to urbanize, it might be a good idea to look back and see what our ancestors had and what we've lost as we've moved on.

The boundary between cities and villages in ancient China was actually blurred. Of course, there was no such large-scale division of labor and high-rise buildings in ancient China, but this is not the key to the problem. What I want to express is that the ancient people used the same natural philosophy in urban and rural areas, a way of living and traveling together. Therefore, the site of the city is near the mountains and rivers. There will be large and small gardens in the city, and every family has a courtyard. It can be said that cities are clustered villages and villages are scattered cities.

Now this balance has been broken, with the tearing of interior and exterior Spaces, the streets that have lost their sense of scale, and the monotonous yet ubiquitous urban greenery, all of which advertise another philosophy. Is urbanization the only way to the future? This design wants to show a city from the perspective of literati, a city after the application of rural philosophy.

Technical information

At the urban scale, the implementation of a large concept into a concrete design produces many branches and parallel concepts to help guide each step.

Separation of people and vehicles: Guiding traffic planning. Through the central area overhead to create continuous suitable living environment.

Positive External space: Guiding street scale. Create a rich positive space in the form of high density low level.

Particle: guide block arrangement. The "enclosure movement" that broke modern planning in the form of dispersal.

Elastic function: Guide function partitioning, which is essentially anti-partitioning. Elastic requirements necessarily lead to elastic functions.

By the mountains and by the water: guide the water network and greening. Life cannot live without water, play without "mountain".

Continuous contour: guides the building height interface. There is no mountain to create artificial "mountain", complete the transition from dense to sparse.

Typology: Guiding architectural design. The public participates in the design, while unifying the architectural character, creating collective memory and creating a small world.

Recycled brick Program: Guide the use of used materials. The massive redevelopment of the industrial area contains the history of abandoned building materials.
