Project idea

"THE CITY IS A HERITAGE OF THE PAST TO BE TRANSFERRED TO THE FUTURE AND, IF POSSIBLE, IMPROVED BY THE PRESENT".
The site where the project is being developed is at the center of the main structuring axes of the city, close to the center that provides goods and services. It is in optimal conditions of accessibility and has the presence of heritage buildings of historical value, product of the passage of the railroad through the province of Tucumán.
It is characterized by urban barriers: steep slopes and the existence of railroad tracks.
The project had among its objectives:
-Promote the development of the city and its competitiveness from the creation of a connection point at metropolitan, regional level and a link for the connection at national level.
-To reactivate the railroad route, a representative element of the development process of the country and the region.
-To recover and improve urban connectivity, taking advantage of the disused route, favoring public transport to the detriment of private transport and creating intermodality points. This objective goes hand in hand with favoring more sustainable forms of mobility.
-Breaking the urban barrier represented by the railroad tracks, connecting both parts of the land, which are currently separated.
-Improve the quality of the area, its urban landscape, accessibility and safety conditions through more intensive use.
-Promote cultural, tourist and recreational activities, favoring the appropriation of the site and community life.
-Recover and refunctionalize existing buildings, enhance buildings of historical value and an area of the city.

Project description

On the scale of the city, an urban mobility system is proposed: creation of new communication axes at metropolitan level, connection through the railroad. An urban park, a quality public green space is created at the intersection of this proposed axis and the East-West axis, currently a structuring axis in terms of transportation.

On the scale of the site, we work on the topography of the site where the warehouses are located, opening pedestrian circuits, allowing the passage under the railroad tracks and achieving a significant union of the environment. This work also achieves the generation of a placid landscape of green hills, a quality public green space in what today is a site without maintenance and without equipment.

We worked with a sequence of open and closed spaces, between railway sheds and courtyards. In this sequence is the main square. This square has no slopes and is the space where you can admire: the old train station (proposed as a railway museum), the new intermodal transport station and the warehouses (which house cultural and gastronomic functions). Through this square and overcoming the barrier of the train tracks, you can access a pedestrian subsoil to cross to the other side of the tracks.

Technical information

At a general level: We seek to generate an industrial image in the site according to the original function and history of the sector. For this purpose, brick and metallic structures are used and glass is incorporated for the openings. The pre-existing buildings coexist with the public green spaces generated.

Sheds
The original structure of thick brick masonry with masonry columns is maintained. Gable roofs with corrugated galvanized steel sheets. Supported on metal rafters that rest on the columns.
The openings are formed by semicircular arches.

Central Cordoba train Station
Resolved in thick load-bearing masonry. The sheet metal roof is supported by a metal structure. Cultural heritage for its Italianate language with the presence of: rhythm in its openings and in its robust pilasters and cornices, the tower, large windows with iron and glass grilles and arched doors and windows.

New transport building
Although it responds to a modern language, stands out in the use of pre-designed metal structures to recreate a ship-like structure in its interior. The use of glazed walls for greater transparency and relationship with the surroundings. As an additional advantage, the construction system uses 70% recycled metal, as well as an energy-saving cladding of insulated metal panels.
