Project idea

FROM TRAUMA TO PRIDE.
Spaces carry memories just like us. We get attached to places where we remember ourselves with pride and we get traumatized in the places where we got broken and sad.
So, can a pride turn to a trauma?
The silos of Beirut are one of the places that has changed minutes, just seconds were the bridge from the place of pride of Lebanon (port of Beirut) to be the place of trauma.
The same spot where you used to watch the rapid movement of the ships with their loud noise and the flag of Lebanon everywhere has turned to a memorial of friends and families with the sound of the Lebanese crying.
How can we turn a place of trauma to a place of pride for the Lebanese persona, the city that has always been remembered for surviving, the city that party hard and laugh harder even in their darkest days?
The answer to this question is between the 3 main highlights of Lebanon’s timeline (THE PAST, THE PRESENT, THE FUTURE) and those 3 stations of Lebanon carry the pride of Lebanon from the sound of Firoz to the mountains and the ARZ trees to the modern documentaries and Nadine Labaky.
Every single station has certain point of pride that the Lebanese need to always remember not by a memorial that tells a traumatic story of the past but a place that celebrities all the timeline of Lebanon.
What will happen if that explosion cracked the land and all the 3 nodes of pride came out of it surrounding the silos, so the silos can be the starting gate of the 3 nodes of pride (PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE) telling the story of Lebanon’s pride that the explosion caused it to be highlighted.

Project description

The project has 2 different scoops, on the urban scale the memorial park plays role in weaving the city and the Lebanese to silos so they no longer see it from far away, they can also access it and interact with their node of pride.
That spine carries the persona of the Lebanese on 2 levels with a spine penetrating it to divide it to 2 parts opposite to each other’s slope, the ground floor contains (Brands shops, Arcades, cafeterias…), and the upper level has the memorial garden elevated so it can overlook the memorial with gathering nodes shaded and lighted with the names of our loved ones who we have lost on Randomly distributed Silos parts.

The path takes is to the island before entering the project that completes the weaving of the city to the memorial waterfront part wit different urban nodes that overlooks the memorial and the seafront.
Here the building starts to appear in the context as part of the urban seatings that everyone can use and interact with as part of that urban experience, also a floating bridge overlooking the Silos and full panoramic view of the sea and the port.

The building itself contains different experiences depending on the journey the user wants to take.
All the journeys start with the silos as a starting point to them, the first journey is the museum of history that takes you in a random path caused by the explosion and walk you through points of pride in the history of Lebanon on different aspects (Music, films, Culture, sounds…) with Silos parts distributed all over the place as interactive walls telling the past and the nostalgia of Lebanon.
Then the present node for it not to turn to past it contains all the interactive functions related to the highlights of Lebanon nowadays (Auditorium, Cinemas, Sound production studios, film production Studios…).

The silos and the starting point of the project Will keep the same shape as before but with renovation of 6 silos keeping the inner walls as interior element. The ground floor will be a double Hight entrance with the names of the martyrs on parts of the broken silos.
The upper floors are used as lounges and art studios that has panoramic sea view.
