Project idea

After visiting the project site, I find that it is very enclosed, suffocating in its current state. The first idea is to optimize the space given to the future courtyard, which means reducing the footprint of buildings. As a result, users will be able to have an open, ventilated space to use as they see fit.
The second idea is to connect the two main entrances to the site and not obstruct them to allow better legibility of the entrances.
Then, I wanted to connect the faculties to the new project to simplify exchanges between them and circulation.
Finally, I connect the courtyard to all the building.

Project description

The «Red Line» of this project is to create connexions : between buildings, levels, courtyard and building through the visual or/and the physical aspect. Here, we raise the building to reduce its footprint as much as possible and give more space to the courtyard. The only elements connecting the built project to the ground are the entrance hall and the posts of the building structure, thus leaving more space and possibilities for users.

The project building is a «bridge» which connects the two faculties of 4 floors (one of which is connected to the ground) and an interior space being the continuity of the courtyard. In this space, there are exterior galleries as well as an imposing staircase. It connects the groundfloor to the greenfloor by having access to all floors of the building.
This project consists of a concrete post-slab structure, glazed walls and wooden siding. The interior facades are fully glazed over the entire height of the floors. The exterior facades consist of concrete walls and wooden cladding with removale parts at window level. The windows have an independent opening allowing the interior brightness to be adjusted more precisely. The slabs of the different floors are exposed in concrete. The exterior facades play with the horizontality of the project through the facing and the visible structure. To contrast with this imposing ensemble, the ground floor is more open and allows you to see the continuity of the courtyard.

Technical information

The technical point of this project is the exterior living facade made with wooden cladding with removale parts at window level. All of these parts have an independent opening.
