Project idea

With the proposal I tried to bring to the table,my aim is to solve the problem of the existed building's improper form connections with help of landscape architecture as well as try to build the area as multi-functional,social and for the formal meeting place.In order for reaching to maximum potential the proposal has also connected with roof planes and the halls of the existed buildings.As a result,in the breaks or in leisure time of the those students and staff members that might not be willing to remain in the campus could highly benefit from the public area.More than that,the design also aims to bring the people from outisde of the area like artists,public affairs and etc.,

Project description

The biggest problem of the proposal to me was the financial cost of the project in this huge area.So,I tried to look at the zone to use existed elements as efficiently as possible.The existed reasearch center have numerous level difference,so that was disabling to gain the daylight.However,digging out all those soil would bring several other problems to the proposal like statical determinancy of the other buildings,soil mechanics of the earth and the height difference of those entrances that is next to Freedom Square.So,I tried to use the soil as a natural sitting places by shaping them as stair right next to research center that also solved the daylight problem.The building had also a greater connection problem with the public space.So I preferred blue glass facade that has low transmittance that would stop having high level of UV problems during the day.At the same time,the building has to have some thermal heat storage capacity that would be cost friendly during the winter.So I also used walling elements that covered with marble facade items which is aesthetically looking nice.To decrease the form problem of those buildings,I preferred the demolish the building that was looking like shell and replaced it with burried amphiteahtre by using the advantage of soil level.That places also turned into a multifuncitonal area.The roof plane of the,reasearch center converted with a public space that can be used as multiseasonal.In addition that area is also a parts of the rector's office but I preferred to have it with borders in case of privacy and security problems.The reasearch center had also problems of unorthodox room arrangement without any toilet and elevator what I've seen from the sources.So,I tried to decrease the usable areas of the class rooms to have contemporary architecture solutions.In the existed reasearch area,it need have clear connections from all the sides that wont stop the human traffic in the building.So I constructed several entrances.Between the class rooms there are several flower plant rooms in the building that connected to the ventilation system,so clean air would be provided during the daytime to the building.It could also be a place for relaxation or having small breaks.The roof planes of the the new building,I wanted to use them as educational exterior,presentation area and public spaces since they had a really nice looking view.The library was a bit far from the main renovated building cause of noise problem.I thought that the small terrace of the new building would be a nice place to have it.So the area also connected with a bridge.The car area over the surface was not good at all.So,in the proposal I tried to take care about the construction methood of the garage by having a gap between the existed buildings and it burried down the ground.The connections of the garage to ground level are provided from several locations.The facade of the research center is covered with Ivy's that is good for cooling problem during the summer and in the winter it falls down and the marble facade appears.In the two entrance I wanted to have a fountain and water connection since those entrances would provide good amount of noise and the water absorbs the noise.In the deisgn I also tried to remain the trees as much as possible.Also I planted several other trees to the area to decrease the high level of Uv problems during the summer as a natural shading,.In the research center the elevator opens towards to double side incase of heavy objects need to lifted ramps are not preferred.The roof of the research building is made out of frosted glass and the facades of the roofs are protected with curtain shadings.Bridge connections wouldn't be possible to have between the buildings but the roof planes are possible to have it with thick load bearing beams that I preferred.Reasearch public roof is closable canopy that is made out of fabric which is traditional roofing in Africa that is good both raining and to sun.The halls of the new building was quite depresive I tried to take the sky to ground by constructing mirror flooring combined with glass surface with seatings,so people can watch the sky by looking down to ground like watching fountain.The black marble that I used in a purpose of gaining daylight in winter more efficient and the white one is to reflect the diffuse light more since its darker compared to other side.

Technical information

Research Center(Renovated);Glazing blue facades with approximately 2.51mx5m profile.
Flooring approximately 50cm depending on layers existed.
Facade items:Black marble,white marble stone.
Wooden Columns in the garden:20cmx20cm
Wooden Columns in the educational exterior: 30cmx30cm
Fences covered with greenery over the Roof Planes avarage height:3m
Pavement over the garden is Asphalt cement pavement with light surface treatment.
Theatre covered with marble but it could be either sand lime stone.

Wooden Columns over the right top corner entrance 30cmx30cm
Wooden Columns over the stairs that links garage to ground 30cmx30cm
Wooden Columns in the entrace of the Research area 20cmx20cm
River stream 10 cm depth.
Grasses over the roof planes needs to have 15cm minimum soil surface with covered water proof membrane under.
