Project idea

The wondering of the city streets, even if it has a cause, lays in its countless stimulations to venture out and to discover. There are those who will search for the place they could call their own, intimate and free of the city buzz, while others will set their foot in search of crowded places full of human activity.
The courtyard of the STU located in the heart of the city of Bratislava, in between the historic town and the modern city, in place full of urban activity. But it is cut off of it surrounding and isn’t taking a part as an urban space. The STU courtyard is a substantial urban component that could be used as a connection of the wonder for knowledge with the wonder of a place. The proposal offers to deepen the link between the academic research and the urban daily life by creating an urban node that reveal in between the campus buildings and create an exciting link between Freedom square with Radlinskeho avenue.

Project description

The project offers a new urban membrane of dynamic bodies that re-shaped the courtyard to revel a tectonic system of multiple changing narratives of movant and interaction between the ground and the campus buildings. The movement of the bodies create volumes for knowledge seeking while the changing ground stimulate the city wanderers for a search of a place they could call their own.
The STU courtyard is defined by a public avenue with restaurant’s and caffe’s that will stimulate the connection to the academy and its innovation and startup center that are facing and communicating with the public space’s users. the old laboratory building is adapted to a place of multipurpose learning center for meeting and sharing information between the campus and the city. the innovation and startup center are two differ bodies that a connected to the existing campus buildings and their circulation system to strengthen the connection to the courtyard and its user’s.

Technical information

The tectonic system of bodies offers a structure of concrete plains that is function as a constructive element and as an element of hiding and reviling to stimulate the place searching. In the innovation center the plains are of steel structure and covered by printed glass to create smart walls that are part of the research activity. Unlike the innovation center the startup center is using the structure plains as a place for working or resting.
