Project idea

The factory is focused on the production of branded women's clothing, the operation is technologically and organizationally connected to the parent factory abroad, where there are also warehouses of basic materials, finished products, cutting rooms, central equipment and administration.

The basic shape that forms the building is a cylinder. It was chosen as an organic body partially delimiting itself from the surrounding rectangular buildings, but in such a way that, thanks to its regularity, it does not have a very disturbing impression and rather forms a soft transition between the individual urban characters. The design, with its non-rightness, also tries to demonstrate the extravagant tendencies of world fashion brands. The cylinder is also connected with the textile industry itself, where the body appears in the form of spools, rolls of fabrics, etc.
The shape of the building was created by connecting four cylinders, which differ in their purpose and construction height; it is an administrative part with three floors, storage and production part with two floors and a two-storey part for energetics.

Project description

The building is located on one of the Brno brownfields at Kamenice Street in Brno Bohunice. This is the area of the former company Vašstav used in the past for light industry recommended by the City of Brno for new use. The terrain is sloping, rising northeast; there is a terrain break at Kamenice Street at the southwestern edge, which also forms a noise barrier. The plot is further delimited by gardening colonies and service roads, but in the future there should be a territorial study of Červený kopec, which connects the area on the southern edge of the assigned land on Kamenice Street and further defines the service road north through the plot. The construction site is thus divided into two parts, for the location of the production hall and the parking area.
The concept of the design is based primarily on the different characters of the surrounding buildings, which on the one hand is formed by the forested area of Red Hill with gardening colonies, on the other hand by the industrial area of the university campus with the hospital and the neighboring prison. The floor plan of the building is therefore imaginary open to the quiet northeastern part and at the same time forms a barrier to the busy road Kamenice.

Technical information

The construction material for the building is monolithic concrete admitted to the facade; the two-storey part of the energetics is then clad with corten. Generous glass surfaces contrast with the solid concrete and also help to create a pleasant working environment.
