Project idea

Our first intention was based on 4 main aspects:
First we want to connect our project with the existing buildings
Second we need to generate more green areas inside the block and reduce vehicular traffic.
Then we want to create different volumes that have different activities
And finally we also want to generate connections between the proposed buildings.

Project description

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY:
Our approach proposes a sustainable use of the existing building, re-functionalizing and providing it with the necessary structure for the new functions it will host.
Due to the intervention located in the center of the block, we decided no to overpass the heights of the faculties that surround it. We also generate connections with these buildings to produce a unit, that has our proyect as it’s main character.
To achieve such unions we create two volumes : the first one, next to the former laboratory, and the other one,in the oposite direction, through the main hall, getting the feeling of a floating volume inside the building.
We also unify soil levels within the block lung, since there is currently a significant gap between both ends of it.
For this, we propose a difference in level of 4 meters in the center of the block, where will place a dry square.
Finally we consider necessary to prevent traffic, in order to create specific spaces for the pedestrains, for this we generate a large parking lot on the underground floor that can accommodate the flow of vehicles the faculty currently has.

Technical information

The principal structure of the existing laboratory is made of concrete frames and concrete slab.
The principal structure of the two volumes positioned longitudinally and transversal, is a reticulated beam made of IPN profiles and frame structure.
