Project idea

The area of interest is located in the small town of Holice, Czech Republic. Aim of the project was a small pedestrian bridge over the local stream, which is creating an border between the older part of the town and the recent settlement developing in the northwestern area. Location of the bridge is an intersection between residential parts of the town which is used daily by locals, however, the present conditions of the area and the bridge are appalling. The conceptual idea is representing the urban development of the town as a border between the older and newer part of the town - it has a modern and dynamic shape, which is also resembeling a drawbridge which traditionally divided the fortified town from the area behind. It is a new element in the area and it supports the identity of Holice.

Project description

The project contains the architectural solution of the pedestrian bridge and the closest neighbourhood with an accent on technical solution.

Technical information

The main part of the bridge is a monolitic, reinforced concrete element. On its edge, a grating slab is placed. With glass guardings in this part the bridge creates an illusion of itself ending above the stream - exactly as a drawbridge.
