Project idea

My main idea was to create a new landmark of the university and Bratislava, which will represent the university within the city and globally thanks to its location in the centre of Bratislava.

Project description

It is a 20-storey building. The height and location of the building offers views of the historical centre and other landmarks of the city. It is located on the site of part of the heavy laboratories, which are no longer in use. Due to small footprint of the building, the maximum area of the campus can be used for various events, studying, meetings, rest… The roof of the heavy laboratories is accessible now. The building itself has several roof terraces and café overlooking the entire city. On the ground floor there is “covered square” allowing events, exhibitions, and meetings even in bad weather so the spaces of the building are from the second floor. There are two main places in the campus. Small square next to the building itself and amphitheatre between lecture hall and heavy laboratories. Placement of the trees on small square is inspired by the shape and proportions of STU logo. The façade of heavy laboratories can be used for video mapping, film projections or displaying various information. In the campus, emphasis has been placed on a large amount of green areas. Also, the passage on the north west corner of the campus will be opened to the public.

Technical information

It is a 20-storey building. Load bearing structure is made from reinforced concrete columns, slabs, and core. Core contains 4 elevators (2 of them only to 11th floor), staircase and toilets. The columns are lined with fibre concrete panels, which guarantee a long service life and minimal maintenance. The curtain walls with thermal insulation glass improves the indoor climate and the cooling costs. The project also envisages the use of the rainwater. The heavy laboratories are newly sheeted with glass panels. Garages for about 300 cars are located underground together with technical background.
