Practical Learning Centre for Senior High School Students

Project idea

The main idea of this project was to design a Practical learning facility for students in the Senior High Schools within the Ejisu District(Ashanti Region of Ghana.). This centre will be used by all the schools within the district and also encourage inter-schools Hands-on learning activities.
The site selected for this project was due to its closeness to the schools and its interesting terrain.

Project description

The major spaces provided in the facility was laboratories, studios, workshops, a multipurpose auditorium, classrooms with a courtyard that play a crucial role to unify elements and spaces culturally, and a planetarium.
Some other features of the design include a green roof, an interaction space and outdoor seating for students and that serves as a relaxation place and an interactive space for studies and discussions pertaining to academia, recreational facilities, a cafeteria with gymnasium and a game centre, a pool for training and recreational purposes.

Technical information

The structure post and beam with steel trusses for the roof structure.
Concrete, steel and glass were the main materials used for the design.
