Project idea

Theatre Populaire Idea(L) proposal is based upon the utilization of locally available materials, design for sustainability and climate resilience. The idea is to provide proper spaces for labo area, work area and show area in a way that further expansion is feasible, easy and the demand is fulfilled by utilizing minimum material cost and labour. The local materials used with traditional technique results in the projects sustainability and engages the community.

Project description

Proposal for Theatre Populaire is based on reviving the identity of Burkina Faso by innovative use of local materials and traditional way of construction. The spaces provided are settled in a sense that they enable easy further expansion and creates exterior spaces, which are feasible and adaptable. The traditional way of construction engages the community and local man-power which is economical and sustainable. The construction is simple yet efficient for resilience to climate change and hot climate o Burkina Faso. The pre-constructed spaces are preserved and Work Area, Labo Area, Show area are provided along the pre-constructed spaces. The overall idea create additional spaces along with the constructed ones.

Technical information

Theatre Populaire project prosposal includes the use of locally available materials and traditional technique of building and construction. The plinth of the building is raised to 450 mm height, and with total elevation height of 5.000m, 9.000m of Labo area and Work area respectively. The walls are constructed using CEB( Comr=pressed Earth Blocks) of 220 mm thickness, Roofing is done using metal roofs with metal trusses, The walls are provided with concrete lintel band which acts as support for both wall and above trusses. Labo area is prvided with clay tiles at 4.000m height from plinth above which metal roofing is done, Clay tile roofing acts as false ceiling and helps in creating thermal comfort. Labo area is done in courtyard planning which enables maximum air circulation and creates interacting spaces between different education rooms.
