Project idea

Coal Hopper is the last standing object at former heating plant in Prague, Veleslavín.
Concept of vertical house offers unconventional use of the object. Hanging concrete hoppers, tall and narrow space. This is a place for someone who wants to make living an experience. Bath tub suspended in the air. Recessed living room into the hopper. Cutting holes into the structure. Framing views to the outside. Every room is telling a different story and you will never get bored. This is a magic of industrial structures. They speak by themselves only if we let them.

Project description

The goal of the project was to come up with a concept of transformation and design an interior focusing primarily on the main space. In my case it is living room with a kitchen and dining.
The main role plays the structure itself. Cutting holes into the hoppers and inserting new volumes. Raumplan creates a vibrant section where structural integrity of exiting structure had to be taken in account.

Technical information

Main materials are concrete structure of the hoppers, wooden or concrete floors, metal stairs. Natural accent of colors and style of furniture helps to blend in with the industrial character and let the building speak for itself. Because of its complex geometry, all the space needs is very few pieces of free-standing furniture, painting or two, bookcase and warmth of a fire.
