(Community based Development Project)

Sedawatta is a main transitional point in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It can be considered as the entrance as well as the exit of Colombo. Colombo is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka. Sedawatta hosts lots of potentials which can be used for the city entrance. The suitable proposal should be an elevated observation deck as this site is significant for frequent floods. The basis of this project is to take the opportunity to have a view of the Colombo skyline.

Introduction:
The Kelani River, which runs through the suburb, is the major natural landscape element of the Colombo city. The new Kelani Bridge, connecting to the A1 highway, runs along this suburb. It connects Sedawaththa and Peliyagoda, the riverbanks of the Kelani River. The context serves as an entrance corridor to the city of Colombo.

This project is about designing a city entrance. The site area is Sedawaththa Kelaniya. Peliyagoda is a Suburb of Colombo city in the western province of Sri Lanka. The basis of this project is to take the opportunity to have a view of the Colombo skyline.


Technical information

Concept Formulation:
Peliyagoda is the entrance for outlanders from various sections of the country. Peliyagoda is the gateway for all those travellers from Puttalam, Kandy or Katunayaka. Also, this is a point of congregation for people all over the island. This represents the main idea of the
design, CUBE.
The experience of a well-designed and formulated entrance will enhance the value of this point. The characteristics of the entrance can be depicted as a CUBE which has same faces in all 6 sides.

Concept:
POINT OF CONGREGATION - CUBE

Form Development:
According to the analysis “CUBE” is the concept of this project by considering as a point of congregation. Cube is a symmetrical 3-Dimensional shape contained by 6 equal squares . The forms are developed according to the shapes of the sides.
