Project idea

The Lookout Hotel is imposed in the landscape of Tequila, Mexico, as an icon of the city that competes worldwide with other architectural landmarks.

With its super-light and habitable structure, composed of metal vierendeel beams and solid concrete supports, the hotel is suspended in the air, allowing you to live a 360° experience with the best views of the surroundings.

With open and permeable spaces it offers its visitors. Completely new experiences from their rooms, restaurants, bars and amenities.

Project description

The building is located on a land of 32hc and 70m of unevenness and has two access possibilities: at the top, one vehicular and at the bottom, through the train track.

The Tequila’s Lookout Hotel is organized in a very simple way by a main axis that connects the train track with vehicular access and along its route it is crossed perpendicularly by three secondary axes in which the different functions are disposed.

The most important access at the bottom, where visitors must take an elevator, which allows you to save the large slope to the train station at 20m high, or to the hotel, at 85m, where there is a reception and a stunning lobby.

The tour continues through a large open circulation that allows you to enjoy the natural landscape.

On the first secondary axis, the bungalows are arranged on two levels. They are characterized by being hung from the super structure and by its interior with glazed floor that provides a unique vertiginous experience.

Following the route along the main axis, we find an administration sector until we reach the second secondary axis, which defies gravity with a double overhang of great lengths where a restaurant, the swimming pool, a recreation and relax center.

Continuing along the trunk axis we see some dependencies until we find the second access and second reception.

The third and last secondary axis houses the suite and quadruple rooms in double overhang.

Finally, visitors have the opportunity to descend to the ground by floating stairs hanging from the super structure that will lead them to enjoy outdoor tours through agave and avocado crops.

The hotel is thought and designed to enjoy unique experiences never thought of reaching by man, defying the limits of gravity and finding new ways to live in the air.

Technical information

Tequila’s Lookout Hotel - High Class

For the construction of this hotel the latest technology will be used both structurally and constructively.

The structure of the project is composed of solid concrete supports, (which will also serve to carry the different pipes of the basic services, water tanks and also elevators) that are crossed by metal beams, called “vierendeel”, that have a height of 3 meters, which allows them to be habitable. Throughout the different spaces the beams rest on one another, forming a double and even triple height.

Constructively, a floor resolved by a metal mesh will be used in the outer circulation roads, which allows maximum permeability, providing a vertiginous appearance along with the surrounding nature. At the meeting points of the main and secondary axes, the floor will be made of laminated glass and metallic structure that allows its guests to break through the barriers and have the path of flying. This glazed floor system will also be used the lower floor of the bungalows to achieve an unforgettable experience.

Throughout the entire perimeter of the hotel visitors will be accompanied by a metal railing interrupted by the vertical uprights of the beams, as well as parasols made of sawn oak.

As for the pool, it will be resolved with the same structure of the hotel and its empty spaces will be covered by crystals, so that the ideas of vertigo, lightness and transparency maintain a constant presence.

The furniture, both in public spaces such as receptions, restaurant and spa, as well as in private, rooms and bungalows, responds to the same ideals mentioned, hanging from the deck by means of rigid tensioners, detached from the ground.

Finally, all the roofs of the Lookout Hotel are solved with a slab called “Steel deck”
