Project idea

The attempt of my project is to implement a radical, live, changeable museum design as a conceptually expressive tool to represent Sri Lanka in terms of politics and art.

The design incorporates rich symbolism, an act of using architecture as means of narrative and emotion providing visitors with an experience of effects, that are generated using the voids, narrow spaces, open spaces, open to sky spaces that cut through the entire museum.

The urban response of the project aims to protect the sensitive natural areas around the site while creating relationships between the museum and surrounding urban spaces, using leisure and recreation landscape facilities.

Project description

When considering about the political timeline of Sri Lanka, one era differed the other according to many diplomatic impacts of other countries. With aforementioned circumstances social, economical and cultural contexts were altered. That influenced the arts & literature of Sri Lankan societies.
Time to time radical artists led many campaigns and art pieces changes human minds non other anything as they directly knocked the emotions. Therefore, a space which those radical political artist can play or display their art pieces was became a must need.Proposed Political art museum address the gap of exhibiting, displaying or playing facility of radical political art pieces in Sri Lanka. This building it self act as a exhibit or a Sri Lankan political mile stone. Architecture of the building is synchronized with the invisible political timeline and visible existing context.
Selected artists are given opportunities to display, play or exhibit there and techniques such as us light & shade, scalability, enclosures & exposure etc.
Architecture of the building convey the politics through scale & time & space.Sculptured columns with heads which has open eyes and ears but with a mouth which is closed, showing the general public can see and listen but cannot express their through intentions. (I have used these columns based on chandraguptha thenuwara’s researches)
The periphery wall becomes a backdrop to the shadows of the sculptured columns throughout the day, showing a dynamic character of politics by different effects of shadows.
