Project idea

Creat a modern and traditional bulding in a historcial urban environment

Project description

Esztergom is one of the most beautiful historical cities in Hungary. My project takes place in its downtown, in the Pór Antal Square. This square lies next to the main square of Esztergom, and have direct connection with the Danube, but it is in a really bad condition. The most significant building is the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church there, which stand in the centrum of the urban space. In my project I want to find a function, that the city need, and I want to give a solution for the architectural challenges of the square. I designed a community house for the church and pilgrims too, because the church suffer from lack of public spaces so many years.
The ground floor contains a hall, a chapel, a kitchen, a dinner room, a community room and toilets. The floor contains four community rooms, toilets and a mechanical room.
My architectural design refer to Jemes-Simon-Galerie in Berlin, and the Ospedale Degli Innocenti by Brunelleschi with its arcade. The arcade gives character to the building, which refers to the City Hall of Esztergom too. Whit this characteristic I would like to create a building which can raise the square architectural quality, but not compete with the church. I think the simple, elegant and monotone facades can express my idea.

Technical information

This plan does not contains any special structural solutions, because the bulding is really simple. I attach a structural drawing (in hungarian) to show the engineering behind the appearance.
