Proposal of The Embassy of The Czech Republic In Addis Abeba Ethiopia

The new czech republic embassy compound in Addis Ababa Ethiopia will be architecturally the impression of both the countries with its unique representation of old Czech cubism and Ethiopian ancient rock hewn architecture.The whole project creates an elegant compound that is both, a place of representation for the cezch Republic and a space for daily work.It is designed in a way it would be used for social and cultural out door in door events.it will also be a venue of business meetings between the two countries. The exterior of the buildings in the compound will be made out of high quality' made in Ethiopia' white stone or white marvel and the facade on top of it would be a light steel structure.

Designing an embassy building by its nature needs to consider the social-economical representation of the country in an abroad land.it is also a diplomatic and security point so it requires a level of security measures.the entrances to the compound are also suitable to this.it avoids direct drive through of vehicles and slows them down before approach. Building materials should all be locally available and suitable for Ethiopian climate.The design concept encourages the residents of the compound to enjoy the ‘13 months of sunshine land’ with its open spaces and leisure spaces.

Technické informace

The main entrance in to the compound is found at the south west of the area.It gives access to the local workforce residence,embassy staff residence passing through another inner wall covering the residence,main embassy building through an under ground entrance or the main entrance in case of embassy events or official visit to the embassy.

Alongside the road their is an exit gate in case of big events and gatherings granting a quick traffic flow.All the access points are protected by hydraulic security bollards controlled by a remote control from the security lodges.

Entrance for visa applicants will be at south side of the area.Entrance through a single door gives access only to the consular and visa departments.Applicants can submit their information through a window or in a room connected to the waiting room.Inside the other parts of the visa and consular departments other office works go on.

The official embassy building has 3 different interconnected parts the official entrance,representative spaces and office building.the embassy offices will be in the right wing of the official building,a two story building with B,C and D sections on the ground and A section upstairs.All the sections are locked out from the other sections and they share common sanitary and kitchen spaces.

The residential building for embassy staff is situated at the west part of the plot in adequate distance from the main embassy building and from the exterior wall.it has pedestrian road that goes to the embassy building and visa&consular departments.A swimming pool,children play ground,tennis table court and another ball court are found next to it. These functions also situated next to the two story residential building mainly to cover the private activity area from some 3 story and above buildings in the surrounding.

At the right corner of the plot the ambassadors residence and chancellery is found.it has 4+1 residence with personal office in side it.it is also connected with a representative lounge for hosting private gatherings including dinning room for 16+ people and coffee lounge and a private garden among them.There is an entrance gate near the private residence for private and events entrance. The military attaché will posted in this part of the compound.


The pavement road will be made of a white stone well cut for pavement ways.it is what locally called cobel stone.the green areas around the compound will be covered with suitable soil and plantation among them YEHABESHA TSEDE AND YEFRENCH TSEDE locally known tree types.The effect of Czech cubism will be reflected on the glass openings of the facade and ceilings.The other open ceilings would have the light and shadow impressions of old Ethiopian Orthodox rock hewn churches architecture.
