Idea projektu

The site is located at suburban tropical area of Colombo Sri Lanka with a narrow entrance to the road. The goal was to create a residence by using the vernacular technology of the area and using as many materials for the context to which celebrates the materials and will complement each other to bring in tranquility to the space. Hot humid tropical suburbs need good ventilation and protection against monsoon rains.

The project contains entrance lobby, visitor area, family area( where family could work, live, talk, play and which will the main space of the area), visitors bedroom, 2 bathrooms, Dining area, kitchen, car park, master bedroom, another bed room for kids.

Technické informace

The construction of the building is done using materials mainly found from the immediate area. The main load bearing walls will be done using gabion( which will be filled using concrete from the existing building at site) and laterite(can be dig from the site) walls, the other walls will be built using wood mainly. The roof will be built using wood frame ( this area is the epicenter for wood work In Sri Lanka where wood is abundant)and roofing tiles will be done by using roofing tile collected by many abandoned houses around the area, outdoor patios will be shaded using cinnamon sticks which will last longer. The windows and doors were build using wood framing with meshing to protect the space against mosquitos yet allowing ventilation. Floors will be constructed using terracotta for indoor living spaces and rough granite for outdoors.
