Idea projektu

Nowadays, cities have old infrastructures that have become obsolete as a result of socio-economic transformations over time. In our case, it is a strategic area: it is the central corridor of the Metropolitan Area of San Miguel de Tucumán.
The present architectural work has as its objective:
- The refunctionalization, intervention and revaluation of the buildings of the site.
Recover the existing buildings (former warehouses) maintaining their old structure. They contain in their interior activities that promote culture.
Recycle and revalue the building of the Central Córdoba Station (it was the first passenger and cargo station inaugurated in Tucumán) through interventions in it.
- The creation of a new building to function as an intermodal transportation center for the Metropolitan Area of Tucumán.
- Generate new quality public spaces that can be appropriated by society, which as a whole generate an Icon that gives identity to the city.
- Connect internally the buildings in its different levels and break the urban barriers, allowing at the same time the connection with the surrounding environment from the opening of circuits and pedestrian spaces semi-buried and subway.

Popis projektu

The scope of the project contributes to the urban transformation and enrichment of the sector. To explain the design strategies we divide the architectural complex into parts:
A. Old sheds: These are located at the point of greatest unevenness with respect to the surrounding environment. The most representative warehouses are preserved and those lacking maintenance are eliminated.
-Their interiors function as containers, intervened with dry constructions, which will allow their adaptation according to the needs of the moment. They will be characterized by their flexibility.
B. Former Cordoba Central Station:
The central (original) part of said building is preserved, eliminating the lateral attachments/additions lacking architectural value that occurred over time. The Station, as a backdrop to the main square of the complex. The back front is intervened, looking for visuals with the main square, the recovered sheds, the new transport building and the passenger stops. It is proposed as a museum.
C. New Building: Intermodal Transport Station:
Similar to the original warehouses, but with a more modern language. Unlike the old sheds, this one has a slight inclination, framing the main square and the Old Station. It is directly linked to the main plaza and the passenger stop.
D. Passenger stops:
They are designed semi-covered with the function of waiting for the train while maintaining the use of metal structures. The shape of its structure imitates the contrast of the metal roof structure of the recovered warehouses.

Technické informace

At a general level: the use of brick and metal structures is maintained and glass is incorporated for the openings. The aim is to generate an industrial image on the site in accordance with the original function and history of the sector.
Sheds: the original structure of thick brick masonry with masonry columns is maintained.
Gable roofs with corrugated galvanized steel sheets. Supported by metal rafters resting on the columns.
Openings: formed by semicircular arches.
The roofs, floors, plaster and glass and metal carpentry are to be replaced.
The metal rafters are reinforced to be able to hang the new metal mezzanines.

Córdoba Central Station:
Resolved in thick load-bearing masonry. The sheet metal roof is supported by a metal structure.
Cultural heritage for its Italianate language with presence of:
Rhythm in its openings and in its robust pilasters and cornices.
Presence of the tower.
Large windows with iron and glass grilles.
Doors and windows with arches.

The new transport building, although it responds to a modern language, prevails in the use of pre-designed metal structures to recreate a structure similar to the ships in its interior. Use of glazed walls for greater transparency and relationship with the environment. As an additional advantage, the construction system uses 70% recycled metal, as well as an energy-saving cladding of insulated metal panels.
