Idea projektu

Contrary to TV trends about tiny houses and minimal living, people are not embracing smaller homes. As an example, the United States has always been a place defined by bigness. However, With the size increase there was bound to be a price to pay. The bigger the house the more money, time, energy, and effort one needs to maintain and clean it. A bigger house will be more expensive, producing more debt and risk. Its environmental impact is larger because it requires more resources. And once you are ready to sell, a bigger house will have less of a market of people financially able to afford buying it. Therefore, we studied a series of new housing models that look into socio-economic trends of new modalities of living, influenced by new technologies, a sustainable consciousness, and the need for community development, which altogether produced a housing typology (live/work/farm) re-designed to adapt to the needs of the (near) future.
This project takes place in the neighborhood of Al Suyoh in Sharjah where a series of middle-class residential units are developed. The residential unit is composed of stacked shipping containers in a lot, and the goal was to create a dwelling that is sustainable and self-sufficient, incorporating emerging technologies and materials, appropriate for desert living.

Popis projektu

We arranged the containers into private and public spaces. And is divided into three zones: Social area, Master bedrooms, and Kids bedrooms. Social area is in longer containers on the ground level and is easy to access. Then master bedrooms and kids bedrooms are in shorter containers located on the first level for master and second level for kids. Moreover, there are two circulations. Primary circulation is a continuous path starting from the entrance which makes it easier for guests to walk through. Then there is secondary circulation for more private spaces. Also, We have single height, double height, terraces and overhangs for client to enjoy different experiences in their home.

Technické informace

We have three different mechanisms to make the project more sustainable. First, we have shading devices, such as louvres, overhead roof and extended windows which helps with cover and reflect back the blistering heat from UAE climate. Secondly, we have cooling mechanisms, such roof garden, insulated roof and reflectant lacquer which helps cool the house down. Lastly, we have renewable resources, such as solar panels, natural pool and vegetation.
