Idea projektu

LESS IS MORE. It is a well-known cliché, but it best describes this proposal in a nutshell. After a lot of scribbled sheets of paper, a block in the middle of the courtyard came out of those lines. The space is currently opaque, it is necessary to visually inspect it, determine its clear core and define the areas according to functions.

The arched hall provides a dignified anteroom, which also uses the proposed building as an entrance area.
However, the building does not divide the area as a barrier, at the end, where it is connected to the Faculty of Civil Engineering, it offers a covered multifunctional space through which you can pass under the volume.

The expression must fit, the substance must meet the needs of users. The volume gets a functional, technical look and its entrance space is highlighted by a regular sharp grid of protruding lines. The colour presents the university and the shape underlines its technically oriented content.

Popis projektu

Heavy laboratories were a difficult task. In this proposal, the heavy laboratory building is rehabilitated. During the remediation, a new building will be built, to which the machines will be moved.

Another task was to open the courtyard to the surroundings. The existing corner entrances to the courtyard need to be restored. The proposal is an effort to connect the Freedom Square with the new centre through the magnificent foyer of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Another main entrance to the atrium leads from the southeast, where there is also a ramp for vehicles to the underground garage.

The underground garage uses most of the floor area of the yard. Right in front of the hall and the proposed entrance to the centre, a central space is created for social events of various types.

ARCHITECTURE AND MATERIALS The volume of the block hides 4 above-ground floors. The technical appearance of the building‘s exterior consists of cement-fibre perimeter cladding and sash windows. The entrance part is highlighted by a red aluminium sheet, which forms a raised grid, which protects the glass surfaces from overheating.

THE LAYOUT consists of a three-story building with a central corridor. The corridor is illuminated by atrium openings through all ceilings. Upstairs there are 3 stairs with elevators and one staircase leads to the green roof. Functionality and reliability were priorities. The technical appearance is also shown inside the building. These are acknowledged concrete structures, walls, columns, gutters.

CONTRUCTION The whole building is supported by a reinforced concrete skeletal structure. All concrete structures, which are visible from the interior or exterior, are from architectural concrete. In the basement, the building is based on a base plate 1 meter thick. The columns and walls then support the ceiling slab. Heavy laboratories cut across two floors, with cranes and tall machines. The atrium openings are both in the foyer and in the corridors, where they bring daylight. The connecting corridors are supported by a steel truss structure into a reinforced concrete load-bearing frames to the footings. The window sills are made of porotherm ceramic blocks, as well as internal walls according to the acoustic requirements of the spaces. The ceilings are made of plasterboard, and the floors are made of cast anhydrite flooring. Engineering networks are intact.
